“SWACHH VIDYALAYA, SWACHH BHARAT” CONTEST - PUNJAB

CONTEST BACKGROUND:

Aligning with the honorable PM’s vision on “SwachhVidyalaya, Swachh Bharat” campaign, The American India Foundation (AIF) organized a state level contest in association with SarvaShikshaAbhiyan, Punjab, targeting all the government schools across Punjab to ensure cleanliness and hygiene by taking pride in appearance of their school.

I AM THE CHANGE:

As part of ‘Swachh Vidyalaya, Swachh Bharat’ initiative, AIF installed mirrors in schools with a theme “I am the Change” so that students can do self-reflection and get motivatedabout self-cleanliness/ hygiene practices.

COMMENCEMENT OF THE CONTEST AND THEMES:

Considering AIF’s contribution in Punjab, Director General School Education issued a letter to all concerned officials and schools to participate in ‘SwachhVidyalaya, Swachh Bharat’ contest and showcase their innovations and strategies to sustain in form of soft/hard copies. Contest was focused on six themes decided by the Centre Government.

  • Self-Cleanliness
  • Clean Water
  • Clean Food
  • Clean Classroom
  • Clean Neighborhood
  • Clean Toilet

A presentation was given to Dr. Daljeet Singh Cheema (Honourable Education Minister, Punjab) and Director Public Instructions (DPI-SE) by Ms. MrinalikaDhapola, (Operations Director, DE) to update about AIF initiative of “SwachhVidyalaya, Swachh BharatContest” in Punjab on 27th August 2015.

After the commencement, several activities and plays were performed by AIF team and students which were covered by media to popularize the contest in Punjab.

SUBMISSION OF CONTEST ENTRIES

In consultation with Director General School Education, Punjab, an online platform was created to upload cleanliness entries by schools to avoid any kind of hassle. In all, 311 entries were received across 14 districts of Punjab.

CONSTITUTION OF STATE LEVEL COMMITTEE

A state level committee was constituted for evaluation of contest entries and shortlist winners at state, district and block level. Committee comprises following state and AIF representatives to ensure authentication of validation process.

  • ASPD RMSA (CW)
  • ASPD, RMSA (Planning)
  • ASPD, ICT (Admin)
  • ASPD, ICT
  • Operations Director (AIF)
  • Program Manager (AIF)
  • State Coordinator (AIF)

A list of indicators was decided by the committee to evaluate contest entries(Annexure 1).

Based on commonly agreed indicators, state committee announced 62 awards and certificates at various levels across Punjab as per following details.

STATE LEVEL

EDUCATION MINISTER AWARDED WINNING SCHOOLS FOR SWACHH VIDYALYA, SWACHH BHARAT CONTEST

The American India Foundation coordinated with Director General School Education and managed to get a time slot in a state level event to honor the winning schools by Dr. Daljeet Singh Cheema (Honorable Education Minister, Punjab) on 6th January 2015. Honorable Education Minister awarded winner schools at State and District level in presence of Shri Pradeep Kumar Aggarwal (DGSE, Punjab), S. Gurjit Singh (Addl. SPD), Mrs. Mrinalika Dhapola (Operations Director – DE, AIF) and all District Education Officers (Secondary and Elementary Education).

Honorable Education Minister and DGSE, Punjab congratulated the winning schools and especially acknowledged the efforts undertaken by The American India Foundation for organizing contest and continuous contribution in education sector.
